Founded by Rain Essex in 2022 - an Alaska Native (Tlingit & Haida) DJ, electronic music producer, Mom & Vocalist - Audio Altar is an experimental electronic record label made by artists for artists who are tired of fitting in the genre box. The thought of creating constant alt accounts for different genres or sub-genres of dance music seemed so ridiculous to Rain that she decided to create a label for the misfits and artists who don't fit into the one-size fits all labels of dance music. This label is for the artists who like to experiment and cross genre boundaries, music is art and it should be treated as such in the professional realm. "When I started making music I knew that I would never get to be on the electronic labels I dreamed of being on because I didn't fit into any genre or box they were looking for, so I decided to create my own box. Free thinkers are the people who paved the way for us and I feel like for too long we've moved away from that in a now commercialized space, and I'm just trying to bring back individuality back to the artists." - Rain. Audio Altar is based in Anchorage, Alaska but is remotely ran currently and taking submissions.
